Representative Coach Accreditation
Coaching the Surfcoast Chargers
Our Surfcoast Chargers Representative Program is committed to providing players with a high-quality coaching experience. To ensure coaches have the skills and knowledge to effectively develop athletes, all representative coaches are required to hold an appropriate level of Basketball Victoria coaching accreditation.
Basketball Victoria’s coaching pathway provides a clear progression for coaches as they gain experience and move into higher levels of representative basketball.
The three accreditation levels most relevant to the Surfcoast Chargers program are:
Participation Coach Accreditation
The Participation Accreditation is the entry point into Basketball Victoria’s coaching pathway and provides coaches with the knowledge and skills to create safe, inclusive and enjoyable basketball experiences.
Minimum requirement: All Surfcoast Chargers coaches must hold a Participation Coach Accreditation before commencing their coaching role.
Competition Coach Accreditation
The Competition Accreditation is designed for coaches working with more advanced athletes and representative teams. It focuses on player development, game strategy and coaching within competitive environments.
Minimum requirement: Coaches appointed as the Head Coach of a Junior Championship (1’s) team must hold a Competition Coach Accreditation.
Representative Coach Accreditation
The Representative Accreditation is Basketball Victoria’s highest coaching accreditation and is designed for coaches working within high-performance representative programs.
The course explores advanced coaching principles, athlete development, leadership and preparing players to perform at the highest representative levels.
Minimum requirement: All Big V Senior Head Coaches must hold a Representative Coach Accreditation.
Ongoing Coach Development
Surfcoast Basketball Association strongly encourages all coaches to continue their coaching education and progress through Basketball Victoria’s accreditation pathway.

- Child Safety Screening Interview
- Child Safeguarding Code of Conduct
- Member Protection Statutory Declaration
- Any additional Child Safety requirements determined by Surfcoast Basketball Association or Basketball Victoria

As part of this commitment, the Association reserves the right to refuse or revoke a coaching appointment where Child Safety requirements are not met or where previous sanctions, suspensions or substantiated Child Safety concerns make an individual unsuitable to undertake a child-related role.
